Peacock Visual Arts

In recognition of Small Press Day, Peacocks Visual Arts Aberdeen will be co-hosting Grandmothers’ Tales – a pop up comic exhibition.

Risograph prints of three artists’ works considering the theme of ‘grandmother’ will be displayed and there will be the opportunity to buy Grandmothers’ Tales- a collection of self-published stories as the zine launches on the night.

Artists exhibiting are Niki Banados, Maria Flower and Sophia Luu, and Maria will be hosting the night. More info here

To celebrate Mizzle’s latest book (Flight of the Bumblecat, part 3), Cat Byrne will be sat at Border Bookshop for a few hours, eating cheese and signing anything that’s put in front of her. Cat will be bringing with her all the Mizzle books to date, plus an assortment of Mizzle art.

Joining in the fun will also be Chris Browning of The Common Swings, creator of wonderful collection weirdness including Rude Birds, Grey Fug, The Life Cycle of P.E. Teachers, Johnny Kickfoot and much much more.

It’s Small Press Day again, and as ever Gosh will be filling the day with inspirational art and zine-making workshops, as well as producing a free zine in collaboration with their pals at Orbital Comics and Broken Frontier. Mark your calendars: Saturday the 13th July, 11 am-5 pm!

Come along to draw along with experienced small press creators, and take the opportunity to tap their knowledge and expertise, as well as see them in action! The schedule for the day will run as follows:

Mega City Comics Presents SMALL PRESS DAY 2019!

On Saturday 13th of July, a group of artists and creators will be in store showcasing their self-published comics – displaying a range of truly original underground work!

This is a celebration of art and determination in giving birth to new ideas and creativity. We have picked people from different backgrounds and walks of life – small pressers that can truly bring diversity and originality to the comic landscape.

Our artists will also be drawing on the day, and custom sketches are completely free! In short:

Dark Side Comics UK

Join us at Dark Side Comics as part of a national celebration of DIY books, zines and comics. We’ve got a whole host of events lined up from 11am to 4pm – whether you’re new to the scene or you’re a die-hard zinester, we’ve got something for you!

GROWING PLACES ZINE LAUNCH
We’ll be hosting the launch of ‘Growing Places’ – a collaborative zine about plants and places with contributions from local illustrators, artists and writers. The zine will be available to buy and we’ll be on hand to explain the inspirations behind it and how you can submit for issue #2.

COMMUNAL SMALL PRESS TABLE
Bring along your zines or comics and we’ll sell them on your behalf! Then at the end of the day we’ll give you 100% of any proceeds and return any unsold stock to you. We also encourage trades between creators so you can both get things for free!

There will be a selection of zines to buy from local creators including:
~ Never Mind the Binary – punk and gender identity
~ Borrowed Time – climate change and mental health
~ Sketchbook zines – observational drawings of people and cats

MINI ZINE LIBRARY
Come and browse zines on a whole range of topics from the organiser’s personal collection. Key topics include:

Join local illustrator Hayley Wells for a 2 hour zine workshop where you can learn about the history of zines and how to make your own 8-page zine from a single sheet of paper. All materials are provided but you are welcome to bring along images for collaging or pre-prepared texts.
